California catalytic converter crackdown, new anti-theft laws
SB 55, effective January 1, 2024
SB 55 prohibits motor vehicle dealers from selling a vehicle equipped with a catalytic converter unless the converter has been permanently marked with the vehicle's identification number (VIN), with some exceptions
AB 1519 effective March 1, 2024
This law makes it illegal to remove a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) marking from a catalytic converter. It also makes it illegal to possess three or more catalytic converters that have had their VIN markings removed.
